My glow plugs keep going....
« on: April 24, 2008, 05:44:43 PM »
I just got a Savage from my brother and I don't know what is wrong with it cuz the glow plugs keep going on it.  I must have gone through 5 already  :o , and they only last about 5 min each and at $7 each that sucks....  I've taken the  motor apart and everything looks fine inside to me.  I'm not to sure if he has done any adjestments to it after he bought it so I don't know if it's running to rich or hot or what?    any ideas where I should start looking?

Thanks for any help

i would say your running way lean..check online for baseline settings and go from there..just do small adjustments 1/8th of a turn at a time
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid then to open it and remove all doubt

Yep you where right on, I found what the settings should be and how they where adj.   man they where WAY of and very mean....   I read that the screw should be max clockwise 1.5 turns in 1/8 at a time....   well this was 6 FULL turns in  :o

Now I have another problem, the last glow plug that I was tightening I must have used to much force and now I think that the threads are worn out cuz the plug seems a little tight but keeps turning round and round   :'(   any idea if there is a way to fix this or do I need a new motor?

thanks for any help once again

You may need just a new cooling head which is the part that the glo plug screws into

Sounds like you stripped the 'button' which is the top of the motor that the glow plug screws into and the heat sink mounts to.
