Axial 43/13 gear install issues. (shim)
« on: September 23, 2010, 03:13:33 PM »
For anyone who is going to install the optional hardened 43/13  ring and pinion. You will need a small flat washer to shim the pinion slightly closer to the ring. Any flat washer will do. Does not need to be thick. You should not see the texture on the edge of the washer from being punched out. As it would be too thick.
While you have the diff apart, have a check of the beaings. Grease well and enjoy. The lower ratio is a nice feature.  I had mine installed before I realized it wash not meshing. I tried a washer that was too thick and had to scrounge for the right thickness.

If you installed these parts, and just figure it's the driveshaft slipping, well it ain't.

Found a few other threads to confirm this problem has happened to other axial owners.
Ideal thickness is less than 1/2 of a millimetre.          I hope anyone dealing with this hasn't pulled out all their hair.  ;D
