Lipo 3s
« on: April 01, 2012, 06:09:59 PM »
Ok, have a wraith with the RTR drivetrain in it, I am going to be swapping out from the stock motor to a stronger one in the future and running 3s lipos, already have the castle bec wired in for the radio. Problem being, The kiddlets just killed one of our old packs so now I'm needing to go battery shopping before getting a chance to upgrade the motor. Is there any chance of getting around on the 3s pack with the old stock motor if you go easy on it, aka not stalling it or opening it up to full load or full throttle? Probably need to get 2 weeks out of this motor before buying a new one. Maybe a month.

KK, so should be fine for a bit as long as I don't stall the motor out or really flog on it. *insert smiley face here* hey honey, gotta run to the store for a minute....... >:D

See, bc once I have the batteries and a blown motor, I really have no choice but to upgrade it.... right.... right

Soooo....

Finally got around to picking up a 3S lipo for the Wraith. One question though, do I need to switch the setting in the ESC for the 3S pack for the lipo cut off to work properly? I know it's really bad to over discharge a lipo.

Definitely. You need to set the voltage cut off for 3 s.

Here's some info on the set-up and programing for the AE-2 ;)

Old enough to say I've done it and young enough to do it again.........and again

Thanks, looks like the ae-2 switches for you if you have it set to lipo cut off.

Setting 2: Auto-LiPo (Default)
This setting allows you to go back and forth between 2 and 3 cell LiPo packs without having to change the cutoff voltage for each one. The ESC automatically sets the cutoff voltage correctly for a 2 or 3 cell pack when that pack is plugged in.

Yeah, seems fine, ran one batt thru the wraith, 3S, still the stock motor and gearing, big difference in performance, but I have to take it easy with bursts of power or she gets hella hot fast. stock speed control seems ok but I'm sure that motors days are numbered, I have a cheapo axial 55t tin can motor for just in case, need to figure out what to throw in there long term, probably end up having to get a speed control/engine combo. something that can take 3S all day long and has decent speed but can still crawl.
