New to the Drifting thing.....
« on: March 02, 2013, 03:32:37 PM »
Just thought I would post up here and say hello. I am new to all this and as I spend a fair bit of time on this site (crawler section) I thought I would see what goes on here.

Quick run down.

Got into RC a few years ago with a Losi Mini SCT. Rear wheel drive with a fair bit of speed. I sucked! Thought maybe I could get better at controlling my car if I got something slower. I bought a Losi Night Crawler as they don't get much slower. Or though I thought.... Well that led to my Crawler addiction.

Buddy bought a HPI Sprint. We work at BC Place. Acres of possished concrete. Enough said. I tweaked my Mini SCT but the rear wheel drive sucks. Tried the Sprint. Bought an TC3. It is now up and running. Will be testing it soon. Now I am on a few sites getting info on set-up and technique. Another addiction?

So maybe you will see me around. Maybe not.....

Tuesday and Wed I am off work at 8:30 pm. Thursday I work till 4:30pm. I will be at BC Place all three shifts. Between you, me and Nick let's see if we can make a day or two sync and get some drifting in. I will talk with Nick and post up his picks. Bear in mind I am new at this and have a untried car to test and tune. Nick is hopeless but he tries.... Ha ha!

We use Level 2 by Gate C. Inside, dry, warm, bathrooms, a golf cart to cruise around in. As far as a place to play it doesn't get much better........

So my buddy Nick and I had to attend some training at BC Place tonight. At the last minute we decided to bring our Drifters along for some play time. Well the training didn't go so well but the Drifting was fun.

Bear in mind that tonight was the first time I have had my TC3 out for a real shakedown. It was a bit of a test and tune session. What did I learn. Well first off I need a faster servo. I have a Hitec unit in it now that is better suited to a off road buggy or scale crawler. I also tried three different tires tonight. I have some HPI Vintage Road Tires, an older set of Tamiya Slicks and I borrowed Nick's T-Drifts. I want some T-Drifts now. I took a while to get my head around them but in the end they make sence. The last thing I learned was I need to tweak the springs and weight distribution of my components maybe even adding additional weight to even it all out.

Next planned session is on Thur night. No and to change anything before that I think I will just work on learning to drive. This Drifting is not what it would appear....

Little weight in the front is normal bad idea.

And yes tdrifts are awesome. All I use.
Make sure you mark front left. Front right ect so you don't mixem up.made that mistake again few times in wheel changes to on roads

Ha ha! I am a little easy to distract that is for sure.

But as for use of my time... well....I am at work anyway. It would be rude not to take a few hours and enjoy the massive amounts of smooth concrete.  And my mother tough me not to be rude.
