not really an rc tip but it works on comps
« on: February 08, 2007, 03:06:28 PM »
if you have spare car stereo equipment sittin around and wanna put it to use ..
you can simply take a spare computer power supply and power your car amp from it .. the more amps rating it has on the +12 volt line the louder it can crank
simply run the yellow wire from the psu to the positive on the amp the black to negative ... the red to remote .. if u want to skip the red to remote u can bridge it from the yellow
i use this method for hookin my computer upto a louder source then those weak computer sound systems u can buy works great :)
im using a 18a amps cpu psu to power a alpine v12  better then my car stereo equipment just gethering dust
anyways if anyones interested in doing this and needs any advice just gimme a message
PS: u can also wire a power switch up to the psu so u can turn the amp on and off  :)

I've tried this..  and the thing I can tell you is you would want to use a PSU that supplies 20-50% more than what your amp is rated at.

EG: If you have an amp rated at 400w, use one that's rated for over 500 watts.
