Tamiya Classics Series
«
on:
March 30, 2010, 01:40:58 PM »
I posted this in OffRoad Racing Lower Mainland as well but maybe it's better here.
With Tamiya re-releasing all of their great classics, I think it would be bitchin if one of the tracks had a Tamiya Classics series.
Haul out all of the Frogs, Sand Scorchers, Hornets, Blackfoots, etc in one class. Details could be worked out but I think that if, much like the CORR trucks, the rules mandated stock wheels/tires then the rest is probably a wash.
I'd buy a chassis for it

Sorry I haven't responded to this earlier Dukk, I read it previously just didn't act on it until now.
I really like the idea of this.
....So I guess this would be for Vintage or Re-released Tamiya stuff only ? or would it be for any RC manufactured pre: ....1986 ish or ?.(Kyosho/Marui included ?) electric/nitro ? 2WD/4WD or both ?-what were you're thoughts ?
Have there been any events locally that have involved these Vintage RC's in the recent past ? how do the rules work/how would the rules be laid out for an event like this ?....all stock including tires, speed controllers, 1500mah batt's or less...... ? has something like this ever been done locally?
All be it slower in comparison to todays Vehicles this would be an event I wouldn't want to miss, .....imagine all those rc's we have forgotten about over the years all of a sudden out on the track again in full splendor....the memories, the nastalgia, the old sponsor decals, seeing all the improvements in technology over the years and what kit was responsible for what type of change........To Cool !!!
Like Norm and Chris I too have Golden Oldies. Depending on how the rules go I could possibly supply a handfull that would be eligable, and these would only require a Driver with a transponder
-where ever would I find one of those ?
I'd just like to SEE IT HAPPEN........What can I do towards making this a reality ?
If there is no room for our Vintage racers on a Track venue anywhere, could those of us interested meet for a show and shine/ test and tune(wipe the dust off) just the same....bring all our old Vintage RC's, possibly even do a RC swap meet type thing
, .
......just an idea.

P/up a Tamiya Sand Scorcher kit today, brand new in the box from a respected forum member(thanks Jerry)
.....going to assemble this one and find a nice lipo to fit inside the waterproof chassis. YES, I plan to run it !.....after all this is a remake of one of the kits that started all this offroad RC Car stuff to begin with, and therefore considered a pioneer....well by myself anyway.
RC Cars have long been recognized as the leading contributor for the push in battery technologies and can be directly attributed to what we have today......however still waiting for this miracle " Fion " battery (my appologies if the abbrev. is wrong) that Tamiya has been advertising for some time now- to be available......this may have something to do with these kits not taking off as expected....trying to build custom hump packs again.....that and lack of replacement parts available.
looking forward to running it just the same.

Every time I look at a SandScorther I am on the edge of buying one. One day..
IMO Tamiya should have either strayed from the original or should offer an alternate tray that will accomodate a standard battery pack.

it would be real interesting to see a class like this, even if it was run once a season.
would be nice to see this as a spec class, old chassis with some modern technology. i think limit it to nimh batteries, but no capacity limit. modern speed controllers and motors, however keep it brushed. keep the kits in recognizable shape, however allow some upgrades like bearings and steering upgrades (remember how unpredicatble and sloppy some of the steering setups were?). as for the great debate of tires, some stuff is just hard to find, and some of the tires were rather crude back in the day. id say allow modern tires, spec tires wouldnt be much of an option because of the wide range of different sizes and such. i think the only stipulation would be you run the same tires start to finnish (tires could be marked at tech, if one needed replacing it would have to be the same compound/design).
just some food for thought

this would be a blast and id be down for sure.
seeing a bunch of old rc 's bouncing and fishtailing all over the track would be a riot. I say stock tamiya cans 2s lipo and stock or repro tires would keep the playing field as level as possible, its just for fun right.
