From what I recall he drove from an overhead helicopter. The car was a slammed RC10 with 7 cells. They had to ask him to slow down as the real cars couldn't keep up.

Yup that was him, he also did the baby buggy in one of the Ghostbuters movies and filmed alot of Tyco comercials here in the early 90s. I sold him and Scott Brown the gear they used in the Tyco cars to make the commercials look good Roll Eyes

I stop to say hi @ every trade show I see him at. He spends a lot of time racing a full size buggy now.

I remember this movie well, I thought the RC car scene was awesome while my dad thought it was impossible, years later he sees mine and re-thinks that theory. I also remember that movie because a young not yet big actor playing the part of rock star Johnny Squares is Jim Carrey.
Neat factoids I dug up on this.
Callahan is pursued through San Francisco's hilly streets in his unmarked Oldsmobile 98 squad car by a remote controlled bomb assembled by Rook, disguised as a radio controlled car. The "bomb" was in fact a highly modified Associated RC10 competition buggy topped with an off-the-shelf 1963 Chevrolet Corvette body from hobby accessory manufacturer Parma International. It was driven by world-champion radio control driver "Jammin'" Jay Halsey and was electrically powered. The sound effects of the "engine" were added in post production. This chase scene has many similarities to, and in fact may be considered a parody of, the famous chase scene in the Steve McQueen movie Bullitt. Eastwood has said that the chase was his favorite part of the film.

Here is info on the car itself.

they did start as 1200s yes, I remember rematching 1400s for 1/12 racing as that was the more popular ones near the end of their reign. Sanyo used to rule the battery market, till NimH came along  then they just didn't cut the mustard anymore.

I think Sanyo gave up when all of the other companies kept making the "sub-C" cell larger and larger.
